How to decode Base64 to an image

  1. Paste the Base64 string (with or without the data:image/...;base64, prefix).
  2. The image type is detected automatically and a preview appears.
  3. Click Download to save the file.

Supported formats

PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP, AVIF, BMP, ICO, SVG and PDF are recognised from their file signature, even when the data URI prefix is missing or wrong. URL-safe Base64 (with - and _) and line breaks are accepted.

Frequently asked questions

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. Decoding happens in your browser with JavaScript.

Why do I get “not valid Base64”?

The string contains characters outside the Base64 alphabet — often extra quotes, a truncated copy or JSON escaping. Remove quotes and \n sequences and try again.

Do I need the data:image prefix?

No. Raw Base64 works; the file type is detected from the decoded bytes.

Can I encode an image to Base64?

Yes — use the Image to Base64 converter.
