🔒 Private: runs in your browser, no upload

How to convert MP4 to MP3

  1. Choose a video file (MP4, MOV, M4A or WebM).
  2. Pick the MP3 bitrate — 192 kbps is a good default, 320 kbps for maximum quality.
  3. Wait for the encoding to finish, preview the audio and click Download.

How it works

Your browser's built-in Web Audio decoder extracts the audio track, and the open-source LAME MP3 encoder (lamejs) converts it to MP3 — all on your device. Because the whole audio track is decoded in memory, it works best for videos up to about an hour; very long or huge files may run out of memory on phones.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded?

No. The audio is extracted and encoded in your browser. Your video never leaves your device.

Which formats are supported?

Anything your browser can decode: MP4/M4A with AAC audio, MOV, WebM and Ogg in Chrome, Edge and Firefox; Safari supports MP4, MOV and M4A. If a file can't be decoded, you'll see an error message.

Which bitrate should I choose?

128 kbps is fine for speech and podcasts, 192 kbps for most music, 320 kbps for the highest MP3 quality. The output can't be better than the original audio.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit, but the decoded audio is held in memory. For files over a few hundred MB, use a computer rather than a phone.

Can I convert YouTube links?

No. This tool converts files that are already on your device; it doesn't download from websites.
